Restore Your Smile With Tooth Colored Fillings

Find out how dental fillings can improve the strength and resilience of decaying teeth.

White fillings, or composite fillings, are made from a special resin that matches the natural color of your teeth to restore a tooth’s appearance, functionality and strength after a cavity. The resin is putty-like, making it easy for our Los Angeles family & cosmetic dentists Drs. R.K. Chetty and Chethan Chetty to craft, contour, and shape the resin directly to the tooth for the perfect look. If one of our dentists has told you that you have a cavity here’s what you should know about tooth-colored fillings.

My cavity has been removed. Now what?

On the same day that our Los Angeles family & cosmetic dentists remove the decayed enamel, our dental team will also place the filling. The purpose of a filling is to not only fill the holes in the tooth left by the cavity but also to improve the tooth’s stability (after all, a cavity does weaken a tooth). Placing a dental filling is simple and painless, with the whole process taking anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the location and size of the area that needs to be filled.

What are the benefits of a tooth-colored filling?

The main benefit of a filling is that it improves the overall look of the tooth. No one will be able to tell that you have a dental filling. Also, once the filling is placed it will almost fully restore the tooth back to its original strength.

Furthermore, composite resin fillings are bonded directly to the tooth, which means that less tooth enamel needs to be removed from the tooth prior to placing the filling. While we certainly want to remove all of the decayed enamel, we want to preserve as much healthy enamel as possible.

How long do tooth-colored fillings last?

A composite resin filling can last many years. Of course, you can improve the longevity of your filling by properly caring for your smile. This means avoiding bad habits like using your teeth as tools and adopting good habits like brushing and flossing daily. Good oral hygiene will go a long way to maintain strong, functional fillings for years.
